Super Undies offers a line of potty training pants for every situation you're in, from just starting out to bed-wetting kiddos! Your little super hero needs the right training pants to succeed at this potty thing, so Super Undies set out to create the ultimate trainers with parents' needs in mind. They came up with Pull-On Potty Training Pants, Pocket Potty Training Pants, Nighttime Potty Training Pants, and some accessories too.
I received the Pull-On Potty Training Pants in size large and a Step-Up Insert for this review.
There are 4 layers of built-in microfiber absorbency in the trainer itself (3 layers for size small and medium) through the wetzone all the way up the backside. This should hold a nice sized accident, but really it's goal is to hold enough until your child recognizes their need to run to the potty. For added protection, or for naps, you can add a Step-Up Insert. The Step-Up Insert is specially contoured for Super Undies. It includes 2 layers of Microfiber with mesh on one side.
Here are some photos that will hopefully explain how adding the insert works! Basically you just flip the training pants inside out, slip the insert into the mesh half-pocket (which would be the front of the trainer), and then flip it right side out again! The insert shape and size matches that of the sewn-in absorbency that is under the mesh that lines the inside of the trainers (minus the stretchy white sides). The insert is secured in the front pocket, and the back just lays inside so you can very easily just through the whole thing in the wash without unstuffing anything.
Here you can see in more detail the mesh material. On the left is the inside back part of the undies, with the insert lifted up a little to show the sewn-in insert underneath. On the right are the white super stretchy tabs that help give your child the independence they need to pull their undies up and down all by themselves. This also means they'll seem more like underwear to your kiddo! Definitely a plus! The tabs are thin, allowing for maximum airflow and breathability, and quite wide for the comfy fit.
The mesh lining is a wonderful idea, and the first I've ever heard of it being used in a cloth diaper/training pants product. The tiny little holes allow for moisture to quickly get through and absorb, so leaks are far less likely but also so that your child CAN feel the wetness (and run to the potty!). Mesh is also very breathable, so it's great to have that as the first layer instead of just microfiber. Commonly used microfleece can often end up with detergent build-up, cause repelling and leaks. It can also sometimes leak in the event of a full-blown quickly-released accident since it's a bit slower to absorb.
Here you can see the trainers on Buddy. We are on the small side for the size large we received, and unfortunately they are a bit big for him at 39 pounds and 42.5" tall. The waist just barely stays up on him but the legs are actually snug. I have noticed slight red marks from the leg elastic even though he doesn't have considerably chunky thighs or anything. When he sits down the trainers seem somewhat normal, but when he stands they are puffy on the rear and even more in the front where the blue PUL is. They aren't so much bulky since the material itself is not that thick. There seems to be so much space between the trainer and his skin in these areas. The pics above are without the Step-Up Insert. If I would have shown a pic with the insert in, you would have seen a seriously ill-fitting trainer on my little man. It just doesn't seem to fit his body type and the insert weighs down the trainers as a whole even more. However, sizing down would most likely cause even more red marks on the legs since they would be smaller.
Another thing I noticed is that if I want to add the Step-Up Insert, I have to help Buddy put them on to avoid bunching. The insert shifts and the back folds forward so I have to hold it against the back of the trainer while he pulls them up. Initially I loved the idea of the half pocket, but I actually would prefer a full mesh pocket for this reason. Luckily the sewn-in absorbency provides enough protection for us for daytime and naps so he can pull these up and down all by himself when there is no extra insert inside.
For these reasons above, I think the Pocket Potty Training Pants would have worked better for us as far as fit goes. They have a full pocket, and adjustable snaps for a customizable fit. Although I like that they would still pull up and down like underwear, ultimately I prefer a trainer without snaps for this late stage in our potty training journey. Since childhood bed wetting runs in the family on both sides (poor kid), I have no doubt that these will still get used when we need a larger cloth option at night in the future.
The materials used in Super Undies products really create an high quality product that you can tell will last a very long time. Their products are also all made in the USA which is fantastic of course! This trainer holds up great in the wash, and takes just a little longer to dry than a pocket diaper. The sewn-in insert makes this trainer similar to an all-in-one that are slow to dry, so keep in mind that you may need to throw this trainer back into the dryer after everything else is dry. This doesn't both me too much and I like avoiding the fuss of stuffing now that we're into potty training!

I would love the mattress topper. My oldest was a heavy bedwetter until he was 6, and this would have been perfect for his bed. Hopefully our daughter isn't going to be like him!

Yay for night-time undies!
I like the Pocket Potty Training Pants in Moss Monster! Love the fun names for the colours!
I need a good nighttime solution for my oldest, but after almost 4 years of exclusively cloth diapering, I have a serious aversion to microfiber. Since that is built in to the nighttime, I would have to go with the pull on pocket trainers. My only concern would be that it doesn't come as large as the nighttime pull on.
Definitely the pocket potty training pants, in moss monster or the blue one. I've been wanting to try these as we're about to head into potty-training territory!
i loev the red pocket potty undies!
