Local Shopping :: The Children's Place at the Galleria in Roseville, CA

 I received a gift card to purchase these items for review purposes. All opinions are 100% my own.

The Children's Place offers boys and girls clothing in sizes newborn to 14, all at incredible prices. We recently had the opportunity to shop with a gift card at our local store, which is located in the Galleria mall in Roseville, California.

Needing a few new fall pieces for Buddy, I was excited to see what The Children's Place had to offer, especially since I'd never actually shopped there before. What I noticed right away were the awesome sale prices, which I've since learned are quite normal and happen very often.
On this shopping occasion with my little Buddy, not only was there an awesome sale in preparation for Halloween, but I had a 30% off coupon for their friends and family event from an email. Subscribing to their emails can really pay off!

The Children's Place likes to use fun, bright colors, and lots of fashionable designs on their t-shirts in particular. They also have a lot of classic pieces like their plaid shirts and school uniform clothing too. What's nice about The Children's Place is that they also stock accessories like underwear, socks, shoes, and pajamas so you really don't have to go anywhere else for these things, unless you want to. For girls they also have jewelry and hair accessories too. Looking for a really nice jacket for cold weather? They have those too, and they are beautiful! If I didn't already have one for Buddy this season, I would have bought one for sure. The boy's jacket had a fleece inner jacket that is removable from the shell, which is quite warm in itself.

Here's what we came home with! Buddy is officially in boys clothing and in some brands I can still get away with the XS or size 4 or 4/5. But I opted for the size small (5/6) in the shirts and fleece bottoms to allow for a tiny bit of shrinkage (allow everything is already pre-shrunk, so nothing really shrank for me), and to make sure they will last all season.

The jeans are a size 5 in the boot cut style. They are nice and roomy in the leg and feature an adjustable waist which is pretty much a must-have in childrens bottoms these days. Buddy will easily be able to wear these through until Spring. As a pricing example, these are regularly $19.50 but were on sale for $12. With my 30% off coupon they came out to be just $8.40. Such a good deal and I really like how they fit on Buddy. I should have picked up a couple more pairs!

Buddy just HAD to have the scarf and hat. They are really quite adorable, and beautifully made too. The hat is lined with fleece and the scarf is thick, so they will be nice and warm on cold winter outings.

You definitely get more for your money at The Children's Place. Getting great quality, fashionable tees and jeans under $10 each isn't that easy. I haven't noticed any quality issues with what we bought, and everything seems to be washing nicely too. Our Roseville location is organized and easily to browse through, and the staff was especially helpful with finding sizes that I needed.

With the holidays quickly approaching, it's time to get a head start on shopping! The Children's Place has plenty of cute gift options for the kiddos in your life, and lots of holiday looks for parties and events too.

Outdoor Storage Solutions from Keter {Giveaway - Ends 11/8}

When it comes to plastic storage solutions for your home and garden, Keter has you covered. As one of the world’s leading manufacturers and marketers of resin-based household and garden consumer products, it's easy to see the expertise they hold when shopping their innovative selection. With garden furniture and outdoor storage boxes, shelving systems, utility cabinets, kids products and more, improving your home's organization can be easy, and fun too.

 I received complimentary product for review purposes. All opinions are 100% my own.

With warm weather behind us, it's time to store all those outdoor summer toys, and cover that outdoor furniture that won't hold up to the storms ahead. If you're looking for outdoor storage solutions, you just might find what you need with a Keter outdoor storage box. We received the Borneo Deck Box to check out for ourselves, and it's definitely come in quite handy as we prepare for the coming months.

The Borneo Deck Box is one of Keter's newest outdoor storage boxes. With it's integrated rattan design and espresso brown color, it can easily blend with existing outdoor furniture and add a touch of style to your outdoor living space.

Assembly took me about 20 minutes, and was relatively simple. The most challenging part was getting the panel pieces to "click" together, which required putting all my weight on top of each piece to get that to happen. This definitely can be done with one person, but two would be best, especially for attaching the lid. Overall it's a pretty easy build-it-yourself project.

Once assembled, the Borneo Deck Box measures 51" by 27.6" and is 24.6" high. It has a 105 gallon capacity inside, so it's incredibly spacious and wonderful for holding anything you need to store. Since the all-weather plastic resin will not rust, dent, or peel, you have a maintenance-free deck box that can stay out all year in every type of weather, protecting the contents inside. The box is not air-tight and sealed (remember, the pieces "click" together), but it's designed in such a way that rain will not get inside. There are ventilation holes on the underside rims of each side that are strategically placed to avoid rain entering the box. This is great for avoiding a potential mess of stinky, moldy items inside the box come Spring time.

What I love most about the Borneo Deck Box is that it doubles a bench also. It's versatility as a storage box and also a bench for sitting is very appealing. The plastic is forgiving, but is more than capable of holding Hubby, me, and Buddy without the lid buckling in at all. Believe me, we've tested this out many times!

The lid opens and closes gently with the automatic opening mechanism. It will not slam on little fingers and based on how this mechanism is in the box, pinching is practically impossible too.

We opted to not get cushions for our Borneo Deck Box yet (which would store nicely inside the box for cold, wet weather), so for now we're storing a few sporting items and outdoor summer toys. Since taking this photo we've also added Buddy's squirt guns and gardening tools, a box of our old shoes for dirty outdoor activities, our car wash bucket and a few more odd things that I just don't want out. Realistically, I'd love to put all my gardening tools in it but Keter has a few other outdoor storage options that will work even better for that anyway. It fits a lot of stuff though!

We're beyond happy with the Borneo Deck Box and highly recommend it as an excellent outdoor storage and seating option. With it's sophisticated rattan style, it serves as outdoor decor with plenty of functionality. It's a practical outdoor piece that you really shouldn't pass up. I really, really love having it in our backyard. If the Borneo just isn't your style, Keter has many other deck boxes to choose from, so go check them out!

Buy It: The Borneo Deck Box is available at HomeDepot.com for $129

Stanford Athletics :: Bay Area Family Fun for Everyone!

This article was written by me on behalf of Stanford Athletics. I received free tickets and promotional items. All opinions are 100% my own.

On Saturday we went on a bit of a road trip to watch the NCAA college football match-up of Stanford vs UCLA in Stanford, California. Not only was this a game between two rival top-20 teams, but it was also Stanford's reunion homecoming game and their band's anniversary too. Hence the reason that this was a sold out game! Stanford Athletics is known for their world class sporting events, so this was a real privilege to receive an invitation to attend this game.

Stanford Athletics has 36 varsity sports programs with 29 of those programs offering FREE admission, including gymnastics, softball, tennis, swimming and more. The Football, Men’s Basketball and Women’s Basketball programs offer an affordable Family Flex pricing plan which is perfect for families. In fact, the Football Family Plan (season tickets for four) has sold out the last two years prior to the start of the season.

Stanford University has a lot to proud of in regards to athletics. Stanford Athletics’ annual fund, the Buck/Cardinal Club, supports the operations of all 36 varsity sports and scholarship aid for more than 750 student-athletes. Not only do these student-athletes excel on the field, but in the classroom as well.

On Friday, November 8th at 7pm, Stanford Men’s Basketball will be hosting a Kids Free Night! All kids 14 and under may get into the men’s basketball game for free with advance registration. So parents, be sure to sign up your kids for this free event!

Now back to game day! Our day started out early and with a long drive to Stanford. It turned out to be a beautifully warm day, despite being mid-October in the Bay Area. Upon arrival we were greeted with t-shirts, necklaces, pom poms and bunch of goodies to help us cheer on the Cardinal throughout the day. We had the pleasure of hearing from Ron Lynn, who is the Director of Player Development for Stanford University Football. He gave us tips on who to watch and what to look for throughout the game. It was really neat to personally hear from someone with such expertise! Before entering the stadium, we enjoyed the end of Fan Fest, which is Stanford's free pre-game tailgate open to all ticket holders.

All geared up and ready for a fun day thanks to Stanford Athletics.

We were seated in the Family Plan areas which are on the ends of the field. Although I found it difficult to follow the game at times, it was neat to have the option of sitting rather close to the field. I've watched several football games on television over the years, so I think I'm just used visually watching football games from a different angle. It's still better in person.

At first Buddy was bored and asked several times when the game would be over. Football is completely new to him! As the game went on, he warmed up and started cheering with the crowd. By halftime we were all used to the atmosphere and having an absolute blast! The game ventured a little more to our end of the field too, so it was more exciting and easier to see what was going on during each play. The first touchdown by Stanford was right in front of us, so that was pretty sweet! Of course the fact that Stanford won added to the awesome high we felt as we left the stadium.

 I must confess. I'm not a fan of sports, usually. But, I looked at this opportunity as a fun new experience with my family. And it certainly was! In fact, I think football is growing on me a bit, and I'd definitely go again if given the opportunity. I highly recommend Stanford Athletics' sporting events as a fun family activity. It was an entire day of quality family time for us, and unique atmosphere that we experienced together. Thank you Stanford Athletics! We're very grateful for the memories we created that day.

Looking for even more to do at Stanford University?

The Stanford Visitor Center located at 295 Galvez Street (at the corner of Campus Drive and Galvez) welcomes more than 100,000 visitors each year, providing campus tours and general university information. In addition to attending Stanford sporting events, the campus is a great place to explore with children. Some landmarks include Cantor Arts Center, Hoover Tower, Stanford Memorial Church, The Dish, and its various gardens. With so much to see we're hoping to make a weekend trip to Stanford next time.

Earthpaste :: My New Favorite Toothpaste {Giveaway - Ends 10/27}

Growing up I was always prone to cavities, and each dentist visit was at least one more cavity (sometimes two or three) no matter how good my oral hygiene was. While I'm sure my diet was partially to blame, my toothpaste was always mainstream until six years ago when I started looking into natural toothpastes. I've been completely cavity free for a few years now! I know my diet and inclusion of more nutrient dense foods has helped, but toothpaste is a big deal too. Sadly, my latest favorite toothpaste had carrageenan in it which is pretty controversial right now. I prefer to lean on the side of caution like many natural health experts are, so I was on the hunt for a new one. From the numerous natural toothpastes I researched, my top pick was Earthpaste.

 I received complimentary product for review purposes. All opinions are 100% my own.

Earthpaste is a Redmond Trading brand, the same people who sell Real Salt and Redmond Clay products. Earthpaste is available in four flavors (Wintergreen, Peppermint, Lemon Twist, and Cinnamon) with a retail price of $7.99/tube. The ingredients are very impressive, and of course I had looked into those before I even contacted the folks at Redmond.

 Ingredients (Wintergreen): Purified Water, Food Grade Redmond Clay, Xylitol, Wintergreen Essential Oil, Menthol, Redmond Real Salt, Tea Tree Oil.

See?? Toothpaste doesn't need to have a bunch of crap in it! No foaming agents, artificial colors, fluoride, glycerin, or ingredients you can't pronounce. All the ingredients are from the earth, and it's so safe that you can actually eat it. The Redmond Clay acts as the main polishing cleanser, which is evident after brushing. It often feels like I just returned from a dental cleaning. Check out a run-down of all the ingredients, why they're used, and what purpose they serve.

So how do they taste? We received just the Wintergreen and Lemon Twist, and I like them both. Honestly, I was scared to try them at first. I think I have a taste thing sometimes! But upon opening each tube to take a family sniff test, I was okay and ready to try them. They both have strong, pure essential oil scents that I'm familiar with, and they taste just like they smell. Buddy is still hesitant to try the Lemon Twist, even though it's marketed for kids, but he loves mint flavors so Wintergreen is for him! Surprisingly, my hubby has started using Earthpaste too. He's natural-minded, but often more difficult to convert to healthier products than our son or myself. He easily switched to Earthpaste without a peep, so I know for sure he actually likes it.

Earthpaste has a natural brownish gray color, and the texture of Earthpaste is slimy at first, but it quickly all dissolves once in your mouth. I find that I need to use more Earthpaste than with other natural toothpastes that seems to spread easier, but that's okay with me. The clay adds an interesting, detoxing feeling to my gums when I brush and I like it! As far as effectiveness goes, my teeth feel exceptionally clean and my breath is fresh after. Something odd that I noticed is that there wasn't anything between my teeth coming out when I flossed last. And I'm not a regular flosser by any means so I thought that was intriguing. Hmmmm, it's the Earthpaste!

Like many of you, I carefully evaluate anything I'm putting in, or on, my body. The toxins found in health and beauty products are especially alarming when you glance at the ingredients. In fact, toothpaste has actually been the most challenging products for me in finding an acceptable alternative for my family.With the potential of our young son swallowing toothpaste, our strict requirements have been difficult to please. With Earthpaste I feel like I can finally breathe a sigh of relief! I love the ingredients, it's a very effective product, and my whole family actually loves it too. And it's Earthpaste for the win!

Win It!
One winner will receive TWO tubes of Earthpaste, in winner's choice of flavors!

Peepods :: An Eco-Friendly, Healthy Approach to Periods {Review}

When Buddy was a baby, I used cloth diapers most of the time. It was not only an economical choice for our budget, but also healthier for his skin and good for the environment to use reusable cloth diapers. It was only a matter of time before I would discover the benefits of cloth menstrual pads for that time of the month too.
I received complimentary product for review purposes. All opinions are 100% my own.

At Peepods you'll find beautiful reusable cloth pads that are designed for use with mild incontinence, periods or for postpartum. On her way towards a more chemical-free lifestyle, the owner started Peepods wanted to put functionality and beauty into her product. I definitely think she's succeeded!

One of my favorite parts about Peepods is their mission to bring dignity to all women, everywhere. They match each sale, pod for pod, sending those pods to women in Ethiopia who truly need it.

"In an effort to live out our promise to help women everywhere dress with dignity, Peepods offers a pod for pod promise. For every set of pods we sell we will donate a set to the Hamlin Fistula Hospital. This Hospital is a place where women suffering from obstetric fistulas are finding dignity with a surgery to repair a life altering condition. We encourage you to learn more about this great organization and watch the video “A Walk to Beautiful.” You will quickly discover why Peepods is committed to helping these women on their walk to hope and healing."

I'm telling you, this is a video you need to watch. It's heartbreaking, but also so inspiring when these women are given a new chance at life. Since Peepods are great for incontinence issues, it's great to see them partner with such a wonderful organization.

 I received the Deluxe Set of 7 Period Pads to try for myself. This set includes two night pads, two day pads, and three panty liners, along with a Planet Wise wet/travel bag that is shown farther down in this review. Straight out of the gates, I can't help but notice how gorgeous these are! Really, periods can be miserable, so pretty pads are a nice pick-me-up.

Peepods makes pads in three sizes, and they come in sage green, cream, cranberry or espresso with coordinating cotton prints for the wings. Here's a size comparison of a night pad, day pad, and panty liner. The differences between the three are the total length, width in the middle, and the number of organic hemp fleece inner layers. The panty liner has one layer of hemp, the day pad has two, and the night pad has three. I noticed that these extra layers on the day and night pads are really just in the very middle area of the pads, so you won't have extra bulk on the ends. The top brown layer is soft flannel, and the backing is PUL, which is what you find on modern cloth diapers.

On the back of each pad, a cotton wing is sewn on. The snap secures the pad to your underwear, and also serves as away to fold up each pad, whether clean or used.

The quality of each pad is consistently very good, and well-made. There has to be a lot of attention to the little details of cloth pads since a lot of stitching is curved, and I'm happy to report that it looks like they're sewn by a talented seamstress. On the left you can see brown PUL that backs the pads, creating a leak-resistant pad but with no crinkly sound! It's a soft and pliable material that will make wearing Peepods very discreet.

The wet/dry travel bag by Planet Wise is a perfect fit for 3 liners and 2 mediums pads. It has two zippered sections, and is lined with PUL on the inside to prevent leakage in case you're transporting a mess. Heck, you never know!

Peepods have an incredible fit. The contoured shape contributes to a closer, more shape-hugging fit that makes them comfortable to wear, and seem virtually non-existent while wearing. I think part of the reason I stepped away from disposables was the awkward, uncomfortable fit I'd get from every brand and style I've ever tried! All three sizes are relatively thin, which is nice for someone like me with light periods anyway. I'm sure these pads could absorb a whole lot more despite how thin they are because of the absorbent hemp fleece layer. I also like that Peepods are easy to care for, and can be simply washed and dried with the rest of my laundry.

Although I have a couple cloth pads that I use on the first two heaviest nights during my period, this set from Peepods is my first real attempt at giving cloth pads a try throughout the day. Truth be told, I'm an (organic) tampon girl. BUT, I know that there are health benefits of allowing your body to naturally flow, without putting something in your body. Cloth is much healthier for us than the chemical-laden disposables, and tampons. After giving Peepods a fair try with my last cycle, I'm definitely a bit more fond of cloth pads than I was before. I don't know if I'm ready to go with cloth full-time on my future periods, but I like the option of giving my body a break from tampons throughout my cycle.

Using cloth pads is an eco-friendly approach to periods that's also cost-effective and easy. With many great features, Peepods are a great cloth pad brand to start with whether you'd like to go greener with your period, or are just curious about cloth. Please check them out and consider the women in Ethiopia you can help with your purchase too!

Aisle50.com :: A New Way To Save At Your Local Grocery Store - PLUS $150 Raley's Gift Card Giveaway! {Ends 10/31}

This article was written by me on behalf of Aisle50. All opinions are 100% my own.

Cutting your grocery bill down isn't too difficult considering all the money-saving methods out there today. But Aisle50.com won't require printing and clipping like other grocery discount sites, because offers are just loaded onto your store loyalty card! And because Aisle50 negotiates there own deals, your savings are up to 60% off top brands you already buy.

Aisle50 works with several retail grocery chains throughout the country, and recently partnered up with Raley's stores in California. Now you can load purchased offers from Aisle50 to your Something Extra card from Raley's, and simply pick up your items and checkout at your local Raley's store. You pay nothing in store because you already paid for your offers ahead of time from Aisle50!

I've noticed that most of the offers on Aisle50 are pretty hot. For instance, I've never seen a BOGO coupon for EVOL All Natural Frozen Meal Bowls, have you? Aisle50 makes it easy to snag killer deals on great brands, many that are natural and even organic. Right now there are offers on Pacific Foods All Natural and Organic Soup, Pirate's Booty, Popchips, Happy Family snacks, Blue Diamond almonds and lots more. I LOVE Popchips, and I can tell you that the Buy 2, Get 1 Free offer (3 bags for $5.78) is a great buy.

Four years ago, prior to blogging, I was an avid coupon user to the point of multiple insane transactions and lugging a 15-pound coupon binder everywhere I went (don't worry, it wasn't "Extreme" style!). I still use coupons, but definitely not to the same extent. What I like about Aisle50 is that I can essentially plan the use of deals at home and not stress about fumbling with a bunch of coupons at checkout. It's less work, and an easier way to shop for moms with little ones.
