TRM's Christmas Gift Guide :: Glass Straws for Every Occasion from GlassDharma! {Giveaway Ends 11/14}

I love using glass for many things in my kitchen. It's non-porous, easy to clean, and the safest to microwave and to use in general. From bowls and cups to mugs and more, I've come to prefer it other the years to other materials. But what about glass straws? Yes! Glass straws really do exist and are an amazingly fun addition to any eco-friendly enthusiasts' kitchen.
GlassDharma was created as a solution to the ever-so-wasteful plastic straws. They don't offer just one simple style of glass straw either. They come in different lengths, diameters, straight or bent, and even decorative dots on them for a touch of elegance. You can even order cleaning brushes to making washing a breeze, or just put them in the dishwasher to clean! They're an eco-friendly choice for keeping plastic out of our landfills, and are made right here in the USA so your money is staying in our country too.
I generously received four different glass straws and 2 cleaning brushes to review. What a fun sampling to get a good idea of what GlassDharma makes! Looking at the photo on the right, here's what I received from left to right:

Decorative Dots - SIPPER in Blue - 7mm x 6.25" - $8.00
Decorative Dots - ICE TEA in Red - 9.5mm x 9 " - $9.00
The Simple Elegance - SMOOTHIE - 12mm x 6.25" - $8.50
Beautiful Bend - ICE TEA - 9.5mm x 9 " - $8.50

Although I love each one for different reasons and for various drinks, I really enjoy the Beautiful Bend or the Decorative Dots in red for my hot tea. The ICE TEA diameter seems to be great for tea! I never thought of drinking my tea with a straw but it's really fun! The Decorative Dots collection is simple yet elegant and adds that extra touch of class. They would be amazing to buy a bunch to serve fun drinks for a get together or just display in a glass jar on your counter top to match your decor. In addition to red and blue, the Decorative Dots collection is also available in Green, Amber, Clear and Black.

What shorter straws for your kids? Check out The Simple Elegance "shorty" straws with a perfect 6.25" length. I found that the Decorative Dot SIPPER we received was the right length for Buddy's short glass cups so he's pretty much claimed that one as his.

Yeah for fresh green juice!
I enjoy making smoothies for my family, but I dread giving my son a plastic straw to go with it. Some of my smoothies are thin enough to just drink straight from the cup, but some are thicker and more enjoyable through a straw so I needed a solution. Plastic straws just seem so toxin-filled and a lot of times I find they have this white powdery film on them (yes, I always rinsed them thoroughly if I noticed that)! This was enough to make me forgo the straws altogether and just risk the mess. The SMOOTHIE straw we received has been the perfect solution for us and I definitely need to get at least a few more. Glass straws are a step in the right direction as my family tries to cut back on disposable products and they're surprisingly fun to use too! I also like that I can use them for hot or cold drinks and are even dishwasher safe. So far I've just hand washed mine and used the cleaning brushes (they make it super easy) but I like knowing that I have that option.

GlassDharma straws are made from the highest quality bororsilicate glass which is the strongest glass available commercially. You will not need to worry about having glass straws around your kids, or with using glass straws in a glass cup. They are extremely sturdy and very well made! They also have a Lifetime Guarantee Against Breakage which means you can buy pretty much risk free. You will most likely never need to use their guarantee because I accidentally tested the strength of GlassDharma straws for you!

Actually, it's quite a funny story.....Just a couple days after I received my straws I was showing them to my dad. I had opened the cardboard little box from one end to take one straw out and handed it to him. As he handed it back I was explaining the awesome lifetime warranty. He thought it would be funny to "test" the strength of the straw by dropping it, but I told him no way! Somehow while we were talking I had flipped the cardboard box over, opened the other side and proceeded to put the straw in the box. It went straight through the box since both sides were now open and hit my hardwood floor! I think both of our jaws hit the floor as we braced for the impact! Of course, the straw was completely fine and unharmed. We had a big laugh about it since we were just talking about the lifetime guarantee. If a glass straw from GlassDharma can survive a fall like that, I'm positive it can last for years and years with proper use!

This holiday season, I recommend checking out GlassDharma to cross off some names on your gift list this year. They can be easily added to a gift basket or tucked into a stocking too. With just a little introduction, anyone can easily make the switch to glass straws and make a healthy impact for their family and environment.
