You can't go wrong with jewelry as a gift for women this Christmas. All women love jewelry! This next review is for an truly amazing business that sells handmade paper bead jewelry.
With 31 Bits comes an inspiring story of a business making a huge difference in the lives of struggling women in Uganda. There is so much to say about 31 Bits, and it's truly inspiring how it
started with just a few friends wanting to make a difference. By buying
the jewelry from these women in Uganda you are promoting a loving community that gives them skills, meals, a salary, a four-year program and much-needed support for their spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical needs.
"31 Bits Designs is a socially minded business designed to give internally displaced women in Northern Uganda an opportunity to counter poverty. Beneficiaries are given access to the international market, where they can sell their jewelry and earn an instant income, providing homes, food, and education for their families. The program equips women by providing literacy education, financial and vocational training, holistic care, and strong support systems, empowering individuals to further their careers and attain social equity. All jewelry is made from 100% recycled paper and other materials found in East African markets."
This is one of the bracelets I received (you can enter to win the other one below!). It's called the Whistler and features very small purple paper beads threaded between metallic bronzey-gold beads. There are six strands fastened together with a button clasp. I love the impeccable craftsmanship and uniformity among the paper beads. Creating such tiny beads is definitely an art! The button clasp is something new to me and it's the easiest type of clasp I've ever seen. It so easy and quick to put the bracelet on without help. After seeing 31 Bits jewelry up close, I'm so eager to get my hands on a few more pieces!
I love what 31 Bits is doing to help the communities in Northern Uganda flourish. By empowering these women to rise up against their hardships and poverty-stricken pasts, good things and brighter futures are in store for themselves, their families, and their community. 31 Bits started buying the jewelry from six women that began their company in 2008. Now there are over 99 women in their program that are expert jewelry designers. From chunky necklaces to a single strand of daintiness, 31 Bits has variety of looks and beautiful colors for your personal style, and each is definitely made with lots of love.
31 Bits jewelry would be an amazing gift for any woman this season. It's an expression of love, care, and support for the women who made them, and for the receiver also. It's a win-win that you just can't pass up!
