Educational Insights :: Sprout & Grow Window Review & Giveaway {Ends 10/12} US/CAN

I've got another educational product from Educational Insights to share with you! After reviewing the Teachable Touchables, it was obvious to me that Educational Insights delivers on their goal of engaging your kiddos in active learning and discovery through unique educational products. So, I knew this next product would not disappoint and we just had to review it next. We've had issues with patience and watching seedlings grow in the past, so much so that we never got to the point of a viable plant! I figured the Sprout & Grow Window would be the perfect way to help Buddy understand what is actually going on with seeds below the soil so he won't dump it out to see if they are actually growing! Besides, I'm a neat freak and enjoy this product and all it's contents contained.

The Sprout & Grown Window is a transparent, plastic window that can be viewed on either side, and allows viewing of growing roots from seeds. The window is only about an inch in depth so it's easy to see the roots of seedlings get longer and deeper as they grow. To prepare the seeds for planting, the directions suggest putting some seeds in a cup with moist paper towels so they can germinate and loosen the seeds' shells to increase the growth time overall. Well, instead of it taking a few days for the seeds to germinate, we started seeing roots in 24 hours! It was amazingly fast and it wasn't just exciting for Buddy. I'll admit, this was pretty cool and much better than what I remember in grade school! After 2 days the beans we germinated looked like this:

WOW, time to plant these little guys, quick! Setting up the Sprout &Grow Window was very simple and quite. Once we hydrated the included little Wonder Soil dirt pellets and put the dirt in the window, we planted our little sprouts and covered them completely. Here's what we saw just 12 hours later in the morning:

Already coming through and growing! And just 3 more days, this is what we found:

It's just about time to stake these with some sticks or straws to help them stand (as suggested in the directions). I think what may have encouraged such rapid growth is that we've kept ours outside in the sun for part of the day and the weather has been nice and mild. Either way, this rapid speed of growth is great for any impatient young child who's anxiously awaiting to see their plants grow! What's been great is we can check on them in the morning and at night and see changes each time! He's actually left them alone and not tried to play in the dirt or dump the whole thing out which is SO nice. I think I may be able to plant a small winter garden next week without worrying he's going to destroy it all now! Here you can also see the roots starting to show through the viewing windows:

For your science-geared kiddos, this is such a fun activity and I highly recommend it. You can easily dump and rinse it out and use it over and over again too. It includes only one set of Wonder Soil pellets (you can purchase more), but you can use any soil you have. Also, the two seed envelopes that are included will last you a long, long time. We only used 5 and you can't even tell! Although the Sprout & Grown Window is meant for ages 5-11, at age 3 1/2 Buddy was able to follow along and help me set it up without too much of a mess. This has been an amazing way to teach him about how plants grow, how to take care of them, and what actually happens below the soil in a very hand-on way. I can tell that the light bulb has gone off and he understands more about how plants work!
