Keeping your baby warm at night doesn't have to be a challenge with Baby Deedee. There comes a time for every swaddled baby when swaddling just isn't going to work anymore. They want their arms and legs free! But, loose blankets cause a very dangerous hazard for any baby, sleeping or not. Baby Deedee has created a wearable sleeping bag that replaces loose blankets and will keep your baby comfortably warm, safe, and cozy.
Baby Deedee was created by a WAHM, and currently offers two styles of wearable sleeping bags for babies and toddlers, 0-36 months. Because arms stay out of the wearable sleeping bag, it will not come up and cover your baby's face. Their original style called the Sleep Nest is made of a quilted duvet material and keeps baby super cozy on cold nights. The Sleep Nest Lite version was JUST introduced this July and offers parents a thinner design which is perfect for warmer climates and seasons. Since we're in California and we generally have pretty mild weather, I chose the Sleep Nest Lite to review in the Heather Gray Bubble Gum color. I just LOVE the pink and heather gray together!
The Sleep Nest Lite features 2 layers of 100% lightweight cotton jersey, meaning just enough coverage for those nights that still require a little extra warmth. The material is very soft, and feels like your favorite t-shirt. The long, cocoon shape creates a wonderful sleeping environment for your baby. They can kick as much as they want, but they'll still be covered! It's also not chemically treated with flame retardants which is important to me. I don't like unnecessary chemicals near my baby.
The whole thing opens up, allowing you to easily place a sleeping baby inside, without waking them. The shoulder snaps are one of my favorite parts! You don't have to put their arms through any arm holes. Just snap the Sleep Nest Lite at the shoulders. The zipper is reversed, so it starts at the neck and zips down towards the feet. This patented design is actually exclusive to Baby Deedee sleeping bags. Just put the Sleep Nest Lite over your babies sleepwear. This style is meant for room temperatures of 70-80°F.

The only thing I would add to Baby Deedee Sleep Nests is a zipper cover at the end by the feet. A baby who is kicking their feet up towards their face may find interest in the zipper toggle, and put it in their mouth (causing a potential situation if they kick out at the same time). This can be easily solved with a sewn-in cover that snaps closed, covering the zipper toggle, so your baby can get to it. I'm not picking on Baby Deedee here at all, since most brands out there do not have this feature either.
I actually just found on their Facebook page (asked about by another fan) that an organic Sleep Nest will be offered in 2012! That's probably the only other suggestion I have for Baby Deedee, and it's looks like they're one step ahead!
By just dressing your baby in warmer clothes for sleeping, you loose the cozy feeling of being covered with a blanket. That's why wearable blankets and sleep sacks like the Sleep Nest are a great option. You give your baby the environment of being covered with a blanket, without the very real risks that involves if he were to become tangled in his blankets. Even the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends the use of wearable blankets as a safe alternative. It's very important to make sure your baby is not too hot, or too cold while sleeping. Regardless of what style Sleep Nest you go with, make sure you are using it in the correct environmental climate. There are plenty of tips in the FAQ section on their website that will help you determine what style is the most appropriate for your baby.

Price: $36-48 for the Sleep Nest, and $33-38 for the Sleep Nest Lite (price depends on size)
The Verdict: The Baby Deedee Sleep Nest Lite is made in the USA, and materials are very high quality. This overall quality of these sleep sacks is evident in the final product, and I'm very impressed. The price may seem a bit steep, but supporting a WAHM product is a wonderful thing, and a great product is worth the price.

I'd choose Cookies & Cream!
I would choose a small kahki sleep nest. Our house is pretty drafty and I have to bundle up my little girl to keep her warm at night. It is a far cry from my son who slept in the same house, in the middle of winter in nothing but a onesie because he got too warm!
