Gluten Free Baked Goods from Butterfly Bakery :: Review & Giveaway {Ends 9/18}

Gluten free baked goods are hard to find in stores, and at home I've only mastered a delicious gluten free banana bread muffin so far. Sometimes I just need to indulge a bit without compromising on gluten (it's SO out of my life now!). Butterfly Bakery is a 100% woman owned business that offers 75 different varieties of baked goods for those with certain dietary needs such as sugar free, no sugar added, whole grain or lite. An entire gluten free line is also available with yummy goodies like cookies, muffins, and cakes. I received two of their gluten free products to enjoy with my family.
The first is their Oatmeal Raisin Cookies which are pretty yummy! I'm partial to chewy cookies for oatmeal raisin but the light shortbread texture of these is still satisfying. I think they should make a shortbread cookie since these are pretty close! Although they're a hard cookie, they aren't hard to bite through and they easily crumble in your mouth like a buttery shortbread. They smell like a classic oatmeal raisin cookie but without the texture of the oatmeal which I quite miss from these. The taste is still delicious and sweet though, and they managed to get all the flavors in there!
I also got to try the Blueberry Mini Muffins which are moist, soft, and full of flavor. I'm so impressed with the fluffy texture! That's something I have yet to duplicate in my own gluten free baking (although I'm getting close I hope!). I love that these are a mini size since they're quite sweet and I probably shouldn't eat more than one in a sitting! They are super good though.

The gluten free line from Butterfly Bakery uses the whole grain, gluten free Teff flour. That's probably why these muffins and cookies have such a wonderful, normal texture. I've heard great things about baking with Teff flour! It's naturally a little sweet, and also full of potassium, high in vitamin B, and contains more protein than wheat flour. I'm glad to see Teff used as opposed to rice flour which I seem to be seeing quite a bit of in gluten free snacks. Butterfly Bakery also uses a separate facility within their main facility designated to gluten free baking to avoid cross contamination which is great to know too!

Based on the two products I tried, I can say with great confidence that you would never know they are gluten free. They could easily pass as regular store bought cookies and muffins which is a welcome treat for gluten free families that need a quick treat for events. The one thing I'm honestly not too fond about is I think that the muffins and cookies were both a bit sweet as I mentioned already (and I have a sweet tooth!). The muffins were delicious but I couldn't pass them off as breakfast at all. I realize they aren't a health food so I guess I shouldn't expect anything different! They're definitely more of a treat. I would love to see more gluten free options that are lightly sweetened with maple syrup and other more natural sweeteners in the future. Otherwise they are pretty natural as far as ingredients go and by that I mean that every ingredient are ones I could find in my pantry, and the list isn't too long at all. Overall I'm pretty impressed with Butterfly Bakery and how "normal" their gluten free goodies taste. I also think their prices are really amazing compared to other gluten free baked goods I've seen!
