Water is an essential part to living a healthier lifestyle. Although I admit to not drinking as much as I should, I have a feeling it's the result of the yucky tap water that I've been drinking forever. ZeroWater is a line of water filtration systems for the home. They pride themselves on achieving the rating of "0" Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) from their filters. The result is crisp, fresh water!
Sure, water is treated at your local water treatment plant, but water also picks up plenty of junk on it's way to your kitchen faucet. My tap water here in northern California tastes and smells heavily of chlorine and very "chemically." I really don't like bottled water since it costs an arm and a leg (not to mention the plastic it's been sitting in for who-knows-how-long). So, a few months ago I finally got on the yummy-water band wagon and purchased a Pur brand water pitcher. I've been satisfied with it so far and my water does taste pretty good (finally!). I don't feel the need to mask my filtered water with some lemon juice or just not drink it at all anymore. However, the TDS rating had me especially curious and I was eager to compare my Pur pitcher's water to the ZeroWater, and also my tap water. I was super excited to get my ZeroWater pitcher!
Have you looked up your water's TDS reading? Just go HERE, type your zip code and check out how bad your water really is. As I mentioned before, my tap water tastes pretty nasty but I was surprised to see the TDS meter only at a 41. Still gross, but I thought it would be much higher. I also tested the water from my Pur pitcher's water before and after a new filter change and of course the water from the ZeroWater filter. Here are the results...
1 - Tap Water
2 - Pur Pitcher
3 - Pur Pitcher after putting in a brand new filter
4 - ZeroWater PitcherWait, what!?? Not only is the TDS rating of the ZeroWater pitcher superior to that of my tap water, but apparently it's better than my Pur pitcher too (new filter and all). I'm absolutely shocked to see such a tiny difference in the TDS rating between my tap water and Pur pitcher water, especially since their is such a huge difference in taste between them. Well, obviously we have a winner here with ZeroWater! Using Ion Exchange Technology in it's 5 stage filters, ZeroWater seems to go above and beyond to offer the best in water filtration. It also contains activated carbon, which is designed to filter active ingredients in many pharmaceuticals. An interesting thing to note is that ZeroWater filters produce the only filtered water that meets the FDA definition for TDS in purified bottled water. That pretty much means it's awesome. Oh, all ZeroWater products are also BPA free, which is definitely the norm these days and I love to see that.
The ZeroWater pitcher itself holds 10-cups as opposed to 7 cups with my Pur pitcher. There is the spout bonus which is super nice so I don't have to pull the whole thing out of the fridge every time either because it's darn heavy when it's full! I do feel like the reservoir is a bit small because it takes 4-5 fills to make it full and each time you need to wait a few minutes for it to go through the filter.

I've only had my ZeroWater pitcher for a week, but I love having the TDS meter clicked onto the top of the pitcher so I can test my water whenever I want. The filtered water from the ZeroWater pitcher tastes great and ultimately gives me peace of mind about about the extra stuff in water that isn't visible. It definitely surpasses the taste of tap water and tastes about the same as my Pur pitcher actually. The ZeroWater pitcher fits in the fridge well too! I love having cold water all the time without having to pull the pitcher out. The spout is fantastic and hasn't leaked at all (much to my surprise!).

You don't need to get down to zero. It usually tastes better around 50-100 anyways. You are lucky yours is already that low! Ours out of the tap is about 500.
