Rudi's Organic Bakery :: Let's Doodle Lunch Contest Voting, Giveaway & More! {Ends 7/22}

Rudi's Organic Bakery is working hard to help support healthier options in kids' school lunch programs through their current contest! Processed foods don't belong in schools, so let's help make a difference!

Did you submit your child's artwork in the Let’s Doodle Lunch sandwich box art contest application on Facebook last month? Well, it's voting time! By simply voting for your favorite sandwich box artwork, you'll get a $0.75 coupon good for any Rudi’s Organic product AND Rudi's will also donate $1 on your behalf to Chef Ann Cooper's, The Lunch Box, an organization dedicated to transitioning schools nationwide from processed foods to healthy, made-from-scratch meals.

A few of my favorite designs created by Rudi’s Organic Bakery fans!

More than 18,500 designs were submitted in the contest and voting will take place through July 31st. The grand prize consists of a year supply of Rudi’s Organic bread, a $100 Target gift card for school supplies, a $150 Whole Foods gift card and a year subscription to KIWI magazine. The winning design with the most votes by the end of the voting period will also be named Rudi’s Organic Official Sandwich Box! From Aug. 1 to Sept. 30, Rudi’s Organic fans will be able to send in three proof-of purchases to receive a free Rudi’s Official Sandwich Box featuring the winning design. Rudi’s Organic will also be donating $1 to The Lunch Box for every Rudi’s Organic Official Sandwich Box ordered!
 Rudi's Organic Bakery recently introduced their new line of Sandwich and Bagel Flatz. Rudi's free sandwich box is the perfect mode of transportation for a sandwich made with this new product! Made with organic ingredients and free of HFCS, artificial chemicals, preservatives and GMO's, Flatz are a fantastic healthy option for sandwich-making. Flatz are 110 calories or less per serving, have 3-5 grams of fiber, 23-25 grams of whole grains, and come in 4 varieties! Unfortunately I have been unable to locate them near me yet, but will be keeping an eye out! I'm sad that I won't be able to try them anyway since I recently went gluten-free, but I'm sure my hubby and son will enjoy this alternative to traditional sandwich bread. Knowing how delicious Rudi's breads are, I have no doubt that these are just as great and are a wonderful choice for kid's lunches too.

While we wait for all school-provided lunches to change for the better, here are some tips and ways for you to help, provided by Chef Ann:

Packing Healthier School Lunches
  • Use a Bento style lunch box with numerous compartments for lots of delicious flavors.
  • Go shopping with your kids in the produce section of the grocery store and let them help pick out items for their lunch.
  • Let your kids help make their lunch; let them add condiments to a sandwich or allow them to mix dried fruit and nuts for trail mix.
  • Pack dips with fruits and vegetables for fun flavorful eating.
  • Aim for the rainbow: make sure there are a variety of colors in your child’s lunch.
Healthier Lunch at School
  • Eat lunch with your child at school so you really know what’s being served.
  • Become familiar with the school district’s wellness policy and gather like-minded parents to let the school board know you want healthier food.
  • Volunteer in your school’s cafeteria, then try and work with and support the nutrition services director to create healthier food options.
  • Help raise funds to get a salad bar in the cafeteria.
  • Work with the school to institute 30 minute lunch periods with recess before lunch
