Sing for Hope Helps the Community

Disclosure: This is a guest post.

The Sing for Hope organization, a non-profit, provides outreach programs to make the arts accessible to everyone in under-resourced communities throughout New York City. That includes children, seniors, hospital patients, neighborhood centers, healthcare patients and their caregivers.

Their Volunteer Artist Roster works with numerous public institutions and organizations to bring some of the more than 1,500 artists of all kinds who all work to ignite the spark of creative innovation in their audiences. The professional actors, dancers, opera singers, jazz and classical instrumentalists, puppeteers, visual artists, musical theater performers, choreographers, composers, designers, directors and others hope to uplift and inspire individuals through their dynamic arts and bring the power of the arts to those who need it.

Sing for Hope’s programs are free of charge and range from hospital concerts to after-school arts classes to the famous Sing for Hope Pianos, where, for two weeks every year, 88 artist-designed pianos are brought to the public spaces and parks of the five boroughs for anyone to play and to be viewed by an estimated two million New Yorkers and visitors. These pianos are then donated to community-based organizations to enrich lives for many years to come.

Some of the places where performances are presented are:

NYU: Center for Children, a Division of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery dedicated to providing comprehensive management for pediatric neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disorders.

Holiday Sing at James J. Peters VA Medical Center

United Cerebral Palsy of New York City and of Brooklyn, a non-profit agency providing technology, direct services and advocacy for adults and children with cerebral palsy and other disabilities.

Coler Hospital on Roosevelt Island, a specialty care nursing facility and hospital that provides quality sub-acute, medical, long-term and rehabilitative specialty services.

NYU: Hospital for Joint Diseases, which has a tradition of medical innovation and treatments that have improved the lives of people with neurological and musculoskeletal disorders.

New York Memory Center, a pioneer in bringing home and community solutions with positive impact on the lives of adults living with memory loss from the early stage Alzheimer’s diseases and related dementias.

Dr. Muhammad Yunus, a Sing for Hope Board Member and 2006 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, said, “I believe we have a responsibility and a built-in urge to use our talents and innate gifts to help improve the lives of those less fortunate."

Ceiling Lights to Dramatically Change your Interior Decor

Good lighting is a key element in any home and can create a specific atmosphere, open up a room and even enhance your mood. If you’re in the process of renovating your home or simply want to brighten up some dimly lit rooms then make sure to pay particular attention to those all-important ceiling lights.
Consider the atmosphere
Lighting can make or break a room and one of the first things to consider is the atmosphere you wish to create in the room you’re renovating. In a dining room for example, you might want to consider recessed lighting that can be dimmed to create a feeling of intimacy. A large living area might need something ornate such as a central chandelier or some recessed spotlights to illuminate dark corners. A room lighting plan complete with measurements should be your first task and this can then be shown to a lighting salesperson who can give advice on the right ceiling lights to achieve your desired effect.
The spotlight scenario
Recessed ceiling spotlights in bathrooms and kitchens are a good idea as they can shine directly at specific areas such as worktops or bathtubs. The bonus with spotlights is that they can easily be retro-fitted although particular care will be needed in areas with plumbing. Spotlights can be operated individually and combined with a central major light if additional illumination is needed. This type of lighting along with a few wall lights is also a good option for large hallways or rooms with elevated ceilings.
Be wary of harsh lighting
Strong lighting does have its good point but a major negative is that it can be overkill in an already bright room. You don’t want your interior to look like an illuminated showroom and this is where softer track lighting is useful. Remember to also consider bulbs and take a look at colored options that can be used to set a desired atmosphere. LED bulbs are another good option as these can be dimmed separately using a remote control rather than having to rewire your lighting switches.
Resale considerations
Remember that your home lighting can work for or against you when it comes to selling your home. The right lighting can actually add value to your home and buyers are known to look favorably on bright lighting. If you’re renovating in order to sell then don’t go over the top with an ornate designer lighting system that costs a fortune, you probably won’t make this money back. Keep it simple, basic and bright with recessed options and a central hanging light feature.
Implementing ceiling lighting throughout the home shouldn’t make too much of a large dent in your renovation budget. Get this aspect right and you can dramatically change the atmosphere and look of your interior and it can be a major positive selling point for buyers.

Brittanie's Thyme :: NEW Organic Lip Scrub + Lip Cream {Merry Christmas Giveaway Hop - Ends 12/8}

Welcome to the Merry Christmas Giveaway Hop Event!

{Hosted by LeahSay's Views and Planet Weidknecht}

~~This event will run November 28th - December 8th. Please take the time to visit each of the blogs listed in the linky below my giveaway. Each blogger will be hosting a review/giveaway valued at a minimum of $25. Good luck and have fun!~~

There are many brands that I've worked with several times and personally use on a consistent basis. One of my favorites is Brittanie's Thyme where you will find USDA Certified Organic skincare that is perfect for every skin type. They are made in the USA, vegan, non-GMO and gluten-free for the ultimate in healthy-for-your-skin goodness. I've used their skincare for over a year and a half!

Brittanie's Thyme recently expanded their offerings with a Lip Scrub and Lip Cream, and I couldn't be more thrilled to introduce them to you!
Disclosure: I received complimentary product for review purposes. All opinions are 100% my own.

With the change in seasons, my lips could certainly use a boost. They seem to be a bit dry and want to peel constantly. The Lip Scrub very gently exfoliates thanks to tiny raw sugar granulaes, and only requires a very tiny amount of the scrub to be completely effective. Once wiped away (or rinsed), it leaves your lips kissably soft and hydrated. They feel very protected and refreshed.

For additional daily moisturizing, your lips will LOVE the Lip Cream too. The organic shea butter is infused with organic apricot oil and VItamin E, providing the perfect balance of antioxidants and protecting moisture without feeling really greasy. It's a great compliment to the scrub, and really gives the final punch to the extra boost I needed for my lips.

The new Lip Scrubs and Lip Creams are available in Peppermint, Vanilla, or Unflavored. I received the Peppermint which I really enjoyed. It's light and fresh, and not overpowering at all.

What about the ingredients? With this organic brand, you don't ever have to worry about questionable ingredients. In fact, Brittanie's Thyme products are formulated to be healthy for your skin, and totally nourishing. Check out the fully disclosed ingredients for yourself - Lip Scrub ingredients - Lip Cream ingredients.

I would LOVE to see the concept of the lip scrub turn into a body scrub product too, and perhaps even lead to a body care line in the future! Brittanie's Thyme continues to impress me, and my skin is clearly happy with the results I have always seen and feel with daily use of their facial care products.

Aren't these just the perfect size for stocking stuffers this Christmas? For the organic-loving guru in your life, give a gift that is fun, exciting and healthy.

Brittanie's Thyme products can be purchased at independent retailers nationwide, in select Whole Foods Markets, in many naturpathic physicians' offices, or online at BrittaniesThyme.com

Ross Dress for Less :: New Location in Rocklin, California - Now Open! {Giveaway - Ends 12/10}

Disclosure: I received a complimentary gift card from Ross for review purposes. All opinions are 100% my own.

Last month I had the opportunity to check out the new Ross Dress for Less that just opened in Rocklin, CA. The whole shopping center is new and other stores are still opening, so it was exciting to see the growth in the area!

At 20-60% off department store prices, Ross is a great go-to source to find your favorite brands for a lot less. As a teenager is was my absolute favorite place to shop for trendy name brands. As a frugal mom, I still shop at Ross when I'm looking for a good deal, especially on clothing or unique home decor.

The new Rocklin location was filled to the brim with hot deals in every direction. Of course it was also very clean and filled with many happy, helpful staff too. By the end of my shopping trip during the grand opening I was able to score several great finds! I found a new sweatshirt for Buddy, a non-materntiy but adorable chunky sweater for me, a baby cardigan and top, a baby board book and month-to-month age stickers for baby girl's monthly photos.

Buddy's new sweatshirt alone retailed for $28 and yet I got it for $9.99. And yes, it's from a hot brand name that I've purchased from before so I knew it was a killer deal. Everything I found was really at amazingly low prices!

Buddy and I definitely had fun shopping at Ross together. It reminded me that I don't have the chance to stop by Ross enough! With the interior of our home finally all painted and detailed, I know I'll be searching for perfect decor pieces to add as we finish up our home. Those baskets there are all calling my name!

Comfortable Shoes from Hotter :: The Pixie Boot {QUICK Giveaway - Ends 11/23}

Are your feet ready for the cold weather ahead? A pair of comfortable shoes is definitely in order! Today I'm excited to bring you a review from a shoe company you probably haven't heard of yet.

Hotter is Britain’s largest shoe manufacturer, making a pair of shoes every 20 seconds in their UK factory. With an emphasis on comfort combined with fashionable styles, Hotter is successfully gaining popularity beyond the UK. Every single pair of shoes is millimeter perfect and are hand polished before being meticulously wrapped in tissue and then placed in its box - left shoe first, side down, followed by right shoe, side up so when you open the shoe box the first thing you see is the color and detail of your shoe! They add their 100% Happy Guarantee which makes exchanges and returns hassle free.

 I received complimentary product for review purposes. All opinions are 100% my own.

This is the Pixie Boot! They feature a slouchy soft upper suede with lacing, scallop and tassel details. I love how lightweight they are and, oh my goodness, they are super comfy thanks to millions of tiny air bubbles in the soles. The sole is thick and very sturdy, but it's not going to weigh you down. They come in 5 colors: Black Suede, Aubergine Suede, Pecan Suede, Sangria Suede and Deep Teal Suede.

Upon receiving my Pixie Boots I immediately fell in love with the details, deep teal color, and the fact that it's a flat boot so I'm more likely to wear them often. There is no closure at all on these boots, and yet they surprisingly stay on perfectly well and don't slip one bit - even when wearing thin socks and I have a bunch of room on all sides! There is lovely faux fur on the inside, just around your ankle that keeps the cold air out.

I LOVE that they are actually made in England, and not mass produced in China like so many shoes are these days. I left a piece of my heart in London in college and my grandmother is English, so naturally I'm thrilled to experience a British brand of shoes here in the USA.

Paired with your favorite skinny jeans or leggings, you are right on trend with these fun slouchy boots from Hotter. These boots are seriously very comfortable, thanks to the secret Comfort Concept® features that every pair of Hotter shoes has:

- Blissful underfoot cushioning
- Flexible, lightweight soles
- Super soft leathers and nubucks
- Lightweight
- Fittings to suit you
- Women’s sizes 5,6,6.5,7,7.5,8,8.5,9,9.5,10,11

Stretch Your Family's Holiday Budget with Coinstar

How's your holiday budget looking so far? This year, don't bust your budget like most Americans. Instead, find simple ways to stretch your gift-giving budget by turning your extra change into cash.

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Coinstar. All opinions are 100% my own.

Coinstar may be a great solution for stretching your holiday budget this year. When you turn in your spare change at a Coinstar kiosk this holiday season, you're not only clearing out your change jar (or whatever you found in the couch, your junk drawer, or at the bottom of your purse), but you've found a simple way to make your holiday budget go further. And it's simple!

Very telling results of Coinstar's holiday survey from this year revealed some interesting statistics. Not only do most Americans go over budget on holiday gifts, but we're also majorly underestimating the value of their spare change. In fact, it appears that Americans estimate they have less than $21 in coins, but Coinstar kiosk data showed that the average pour for the no fee eCertificate option was $58. What would you do with extra cash in your holiday budget?

Transform Your Change

Coinstar offers several options when cashing in your spare change.

Coin-To-Cash Voucher - After pouring in you coins and selecting "Get Cash" on the screen, just take your receipt to checkout stand to trade it in for cash. We're talking change transformed into bills right before your eyes!

No-Fee eCertificates - Keep your entire coin stash value when you choose this no-fee option. Turn your change into a printed eCertificate to a popular retailer of your choosing such as Amazon, Gap, Southwest Airlines, Starbucks, Lowes, Toys"R"Us and more.

Coins that Count - Coinstar has partnered with more than 14 nonprofit organizations that you may choose to donate your loose change to. What a convenient way to give back and make a difference!

Although these are all great options (something for everyone!), the coin-to-cash option and no-fee eCertificates will be the best way for the average consumer to stretch their holiday budget in the easiest, most tangible way. But first, go raid the bottom of your purse, your car's cup holders, and your couch for loose change!

Our recent visit to a local Coinstar kiosk resulted in two eCertificates - one to Toys"R"Us and one to Amazon. Buddy poured in his spare change he's been collecting this year and enjoyed his much-deserved $15 shopping spree at Toys"R"Us. I've been doing a lot of early Christmas shopping and have a bunch of items on Amazon I need to still order, so I happily chose to redeem our extra $20 in spare change on an Amazon eCertificate. I just went home and entered the code on the receipt and the amount was added to my Amazon balance. Easy peasy.

I definitely thought we had more change laying around, but it appears that I'm more organized this year than I though I was. Actually, I think it's my hubby confiscating all our quarters to feed the meter on the days he drives in to work.
Budgeting for holiday gifts doesn't have to be a challenge and you don't necessarily need to cut back. By shopping early and shopping smart, you can do pretty good and stick to your budget. Incidentals will inevitably come up though, so your local Coinstar kiosk will be waiting when you decide you need to stretch your family's holiday budget just a bit more.
