{Local Roseville Fun} Denio's Scarecrow Festival & Parade :: Join the Festivities on October 20th! {PLUS Enter My $50 CASH Giveaway, Open Nationwide! Ends 10/14}

In my never ending quest to attempt to eat as natural and organic as possible, I'm thankful for the many farmers markets in my area. In fact, just a few miles away from me in Roseville, California is the largest farmers market in the Sacramento region! That's right! It's Denio's Farmers Market & Swap Meet where you will find an abundance of local produce, vendors, treasured finds and lots of amazing deals on everything you could ever imagine. They're family-owned and operated, and have been around for 65 years now.

To kick off the Fall season, join in the fun with the Denio’s Scarecrow Festival and Parade on October 20th from 10am-3pm. There will be craft vendors, a costume parade, a live scarecrow auction, a scarecrow contest, trick or treating, and a whole lot more! Proceeds benefit the Caring for Kids & Community so we can support our local, Roseville kids! I'm planning on going to this great family event, so I hope I run into some of you!

I recently had the opportunity to visit Denio's on a regular Saturday, something I haven't done in years! My hubby LOVES Denio's and visited most weekends with his mom when he was a kid. So, this was a welcome, long-awaited trip to Denio's and something we will for sure be doing often from here on out! The fruits and veggies were delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed taking home a few bags full of local, fresh produce.

Lately I've been trying to buy locally more often. In fact, I just signed up for a local CSA to have a big box of produce shipped to my door every other week. It's not everything I'll need so farmers markets like Denio's will still be visited frequently. For my family it's a start in the right direction to help my country, my state, and my city keep jobs IN AMERICA. So much of our produce is shipped in from other countries. Not only is that a big fat footprint on our planet, but also a lack of connection with where our food comes from and the relationship we should be establishing with our local farmers. It's so important to know WHERE our food comes from so we can make informed choices about what we decide to consume! So, my message to my readers today is to find your local farmers markets and small businesses and strive to support them as much as you can.

A big thanks goes to Denio's Farmers Market & Swap Meet in Roseville, California for sponsoring this giveaway to promote buying from your local farmers markets!

This giveaway was organized by The Reynolds Mom. Thank you to MaeGal, MontanaSolarCreations, Made In USA Challenge, Brittleby's Corner, and Your Thriving Family for also participating in this giveaway and sharing why buying local is important to you!

Win It!

Kiwi Crate :: September's "Farmer's Market" Kids Craft Box! {PLUS Get $10 Off!}

We just received our Kiwi Crate for this month! The months theme is "Farmer's Market" and features two VERY fun crafts. It's quite relevant for us too since we've been visiting a few local farmer's markets lately!
The two crafts included stuffed fruits and vegetables, and an apron to decorate. Basically, everything included was so your kiddo can pretend he is selling or buying at a farmer's market! We even took the box and made it into a basket for Buddy to carry his projects! He had SO much fun making these two crafts and it was great practice of fine motor skills and concentration to lace up those fruits and veggies. (That's an orange and black car he drew on the bottom of the apron in case you're wondering!)
Seriously, I'm SO impressed with Kiwi Crate. The materials, extra ideas and supplies are definitely worth the $19.99 each month. And, if you have more than one child you have the option of paying an extra fee to have extra supplies included in your box each month.

Each monthly box is $19.95/month and includes free shipping. This is a bargain! AND if you go through THIS LINK you'll also receive $10 off at checkout, making your first box just $9.95 shipped!! (You can cancel anytime with no obligation after the first month if you choose. But I think you'll love it!)

Making This House Our Home :: Time To Decorate!

Yes, we're finally in a house!! With all this space, I am in for some serious decorating. Because we came from a small apartment, we have very little furniture. This translates to quite a few empty rooms. We are also starting with pretty much zero decorative pieces and accents since we've avoided purchasing much of anything in anticipation for this big move (which we've been planning for years! a long time). Thankfully I'm getting lots of inspiration from DIY blogs and Pinterest.

Source: houzz.com

We're still deciding on our primary color scheme, but I'm pretty sure we'll be going with a neutral tan/gray or possibly a very light gray/teal color to lighten our somewhat dark living areas. Or maybe a bit of both will make it into my color palette. Either way, I'm hoping to start off each space with a main piece of furniture that makes a statement. Personally I'm really into gorgeous wing back chairs that are upholstered in chevron prints or anything whimsical (I think my taste is a bit eclectic!). I think at some point a chevron print will make it in to my home! I think I may spend a few Saturdays at garage sales to find some unique furniture to re-purpose too. From there, I'm probably going to choose my window treatments. To me, curtains seem to really define what style a room will be and there are certainly a large variety of curtains in many materials and styles to choose from. From traditional to contemporary and everything in between, I'm looking forward to continuing my research and finding what style is truly my own and making it fun. I'm excited to transform our new house into our home sweet home!

Give me your decorating tips! Also, what is your favorite home decor blog?

{Fall Into Green Giveaway Hop} Eco Vessel :: SUMMIT Insulated Straw Top Water Bottle Review & Giveaway {Ends 9/30} #FallGreen

Welcome to the Fall Into Green Giveaway Hop, hosted by Happy Mothering and Happy Green Mama through the Green Moms Network. Each participating blog is hosting a green or eco-friendly giveaway worth at least $25. You can find the list of participating blogs, along with grand prize information below my Rafflecopter entry form! But first, let me introduce you to my sponsor for this event!
Eco Vessel, based in Boulder, Colorado, offers a line of sustainable, reusable water bottles and accessories for adults and kids. While most are stainless steel, they also offer plastic and glass options as well. Either way, their products are free of lead, phthalates, BPA, and other harmful, leaching materials.

Although I'm quite fond of glass water bottles, my second choice is stainless steel. They're more durable than glass and much lighter in weight. That's why I ultimately decided to choose the SUMMIT Insulated Straw Top Bottle in the 17oz size to review.
The SUMMIT is made from 18/8 stainless steel and has no liners inside that could potentially leak or cause problems in the future. It's triple-insulated, thick walls make this bottle sweat-proof which means no watery mess. I love putting ice in mine so this is a major bonus for me. Also, because of the insulated walls, my water stays cold for hours. Apparently it can stay cold for up to 36 hours! It features an ergonomic design for easy holding, an easy one-handed flip spout with straws for drinking, and a carrying handle that makes it easy to twist off the top too.

This bottle is technically supposed to be used with the included straws (it comes with two) that attach to the underside of the top. That way you don't need to tilt the bottle to drink. However, I've found that it works just as well without the straws, and I just tilt to drink just like any other water bottle. I think I prefer it this way too since the plastic straws won't be sitting in my water (although they are considered safe and free of harmful chemicals). Not too much water comes out at once through the spout, but it's quenching and makes me actually want to drink my water! Also, when the silicone spout is down, I've found it to be leak proof. This is great for my 3 1/2 year old who tends to tip over my water bottles on accident all the time!

Overall I think the SUMMIT was designed very well, convenient, simple, sustainable, recyclable, safe and it's even pretty to look at! I think I've found my new favorite water bottle! The SUMMIT is also available in a 25oz size, and a similar style for kids called FROST that is a 13oz size. There are also lots of colors to choose from!

{When Seasons Change Blog Hop} Get Organized With More Time Moms! Review & Giveaway {Ends 10/4} US/CAN

Welcome to the When Seasons Change Blog Hop, hosted by And The Little Ones Too and Taking Time for Mommy! Each participating blogger (found on the linky below my Rafflecopter entry form) is hosting their own giveaway valued at $25 or more! My wonderful sponsor represents the perfect way to get the fall season started.....by getting organized!

More Time Moms is dedicated to helping families stay organized, therefore allowing moms more precious time with their families.  For me, staying organized also means I save my sanity! For instance, if I don't write stuff down, I inevitably forget whatever I needed to remember and my days tends to fall apart. Sound familiar at all? More Time Moms can help you change all that.

I've found that I like to get a new paper calendar in January each year, just like most people. If I don't get one then (and rely solely on my google calendar and iPhone), I always find that I NEED one around September when activities and events start up for the fall and things just get crazy. Fall is when I get in my cleaning and organization mode. Forget Spring cleaning! And December is right around the corner and that is a crazy, crazy month for my family with multiple birthdays, Christmas, and lots of family gatherings. That's what I love most about the Family Organizer. The Family Organizer is a mom-made, mom-tested, #1 bestselling calendar that starts in September 2012 and goes all the way through December 2013. I despise the "school year" calendars that stop around September the following year. It doesn't make much sense to me!

 I am LOVING this organizer/calendar. This spiral-bound, 15" x 22" wall calendar features huge, 2.1"x 3.5" lined rectangles for each day that are more than large enough for even the busiest family. It also features inspirational quotes, MTM recipes, a telephone, emergency and medical directory in the back, a large pocket in the back for important papers and bills, and small areas on various months for your own To do lists, kids chores, reminders and so much more. There are 260 appointment and reminder stickers as well, which are really coming in quite handy! I've never been a sticker person when it comes to calendars. I always throw them away. But this one is different! Each rectangle is large enough to actually put on the stickers! The first thing I did when I opened my calendar was fill out all the birthdays in my family with the little birthday cake stickers. Then I wrote whose birthday it was next to it.

With the Family Organizer I almost feel like I'm getting a head start on next year because dentist appointments, birthday reminders, vacations and other important occasions that I already know of can get on the calendar NOW. They don't have to sit on a piece of paper, waiting to get lost while I wait for January and a new calendar. And what about when this one is done in December 2013? I will have already purchased the next calendar in September 2013 so I'll be ahead of the game, again!

I also had the opportunity to check out the Fridge List. This magnetic grocery list and menu planner is the perfect addition to my newly organized routine in our new home. I've been trying to find a comprehensive product like this, but haven't had any luck until now! It measures 8.5" x 11" and has 48 sheets. It's a tearpad style with your meal-by-meal menu plan on top and your grocery list on the bottom. There's even a perforated line between the two so you can take your grocery list with you and leave the menu plan still up. Since we eat mostly at home, a meal-by-meal plan is ideal for my family and it goes well with my perfectionist need to stay totally organized. A meal plan is not just about dinner after all. It's easy to take a glance and see the entire day of meals all in one place so I can prep whatever I need to as needed and well in advance.

I really struggle with meal planning and have yet to tackle that side of household organization until now. I tend to make multiple trips to different grocery/natural food stores each week, and I seem to never have everything I need when I find that last-minute recipe that looks really good for dinner. It's important to plan ahead! Not just for my sanity, but for my wallet also. If it were just me, I probably wouldn't care for a menu planner at all. But since I care for my son and need to feed my husband, I need to cook healthy, well-rounded meals as much as possible. I admit, since I've never been good at meal planning, some meals are just plain lop-sided with plenty of odd pairings. I'm really hoping to work of that with this Fridge List and plan ahead!

The Fridge List has been a huge help and motivator in my ongoing, everlasting quest to be a more organized mom. In conjunction with the Family Organizer, I hope that I can do just that and so much more so I can be the best mom and wife I can be!

HALO SleepSack Crib Sets {Review & HUGE 50% Off Discount}

Safe sleeping is of the utmost importance to HALO, makers of safe sleeping products for infants and young children. The founder of HALO is a SIDS dad which, while incredibly heartbreaking, has probably resulted in countless little lives saved from similar tragedies because of his passion to help babies sleep safely. If I were to trust anyone's advice regarding safe infant sleeping practices, it would be from HALO.

When it comes time to decorate your baby's nursery, what do you REALLY need? One part that you can count on being pretty easy with HALO is the crib decor. With HALO's SleepSack Crib Sets, you have everything you need to get started and none of the frivolous stuff (ahem, bumpers and decorative blankets). Available in 6 different prints, these 5-piece crib sets include a SleepSack wearable blanket, SleepSack Swaddle, two soft 100% cotton jersey fitted crib sheets and matching decorative skirt.

 I LOVE this set. I'm definitely looking forward to stashing it away for my future baby girl (some day!). The SleepSack wearable blanket is a newborn size and makes swaddling super easy with it's gentle velcro wings. The SleepSack Wearable Blanket is a size small, fits 0-6 months and allows you to put your baby to sleep safely without any loose blankets. The fitted crib sheets are fabulously soft, high quality, and have elastic all the way around and not just the corners. This will keep them on nice and snug! It's so nice to have an extra sheet included (although personally I prefer to have about 5-6....Buddy was a messy baby....). And the decorative crib skirt, oh how I love thee! It's such a beautiful design and the bright tones make me so happy. It really sets the tone for baby's nursery theme and with all the colors you can really go a lot of ways and directions for the rest of baby's nursery.

 While your mother's generation may tell you that you need a crib bumper (and you turned out okay, right?), you really don't. It's all for show, restricts air flow around your baby and can potentially suffocate them also. Did you catch that? Bumpers are horribly unsafe and incredibly unnecessary. I think the simplicity of the HALO SleepSack Crib Sets are perfect as they are and they're the first crib sets I've seen that don't include a bumper (which is great because I would throw it away anyway!). If you feel like you need something, check out the "breathable" bumpers out there made of mesh to keep in arms and legs (and pacifiers!). Otherwise, it's best to keep it simple and bumper-free with HALO SleepSack Crib Sets which you will love to pieces.

Price: $115, but for one week only, you can get 50% off a HALO SleepSack Crib Set and free shipping with code HALO50! Code expires on 9/23/12 at 11:59 pm CST.

Philips Norelco Bodygroom Pro :: Review & Giveaway {Ends 9/23}

For the guys in your life that care about every bit of their appearance, I have a pretty neat product to share with you. I'm talking about one for male body grooming. From the face, neck and back to other more sensitive areas, this is a product that every guy on your Christmas list would certainly appreciate.

I'm talking about dual-ended Bodygroom Pro by Philips Norelco. Featuring one end with a Hypo-allergenic foil shaver and patented pearl tips, and the other with 5 length settings for an optimal trim, this all-in-one product has it all for every area of the body. Rounded tips and a 3-Dimensional pivoting head allow for a smooth shave without irritation. Ready for a trim? There are no attachments to lose, and the 5 length settings easily adjust up and down to suit your needs at any given notice. It's also completely waterproof and features rubber grips so it can be used in the shower with ease. The battery gives you 50 minutes of cordless power and can be stored upright while charging on the included stand.
I really could care less whether hubby chooses to be hairless or hairy as can be (which he really isn't anyway). I just hate the in-between, uneven half job that usually happens as a result of not-so-great grooming products hubby already owned before his Bodygroom Pro. I hate spiky neck hairs between hair cuts! Well, let's just say it works. Really, really well. He can get a close shave that's smooth and completely non-irritating.

His face is also very prone to ingrown hairs when using electric razors. So much so that he resorts to the cheapy 2-blade disposable razors for his shaving needs which don't get close enough to cause those ingrown hairs to form. I'm happy to report that in the few weeks he has used the Bodygroom Pro he hasn't experienced any irritation or issues he typically experiences from other products. The trimming end also works great for back and leg hair and gets the job done evenly and quickly.

Overall my hubby is thrilled with the Bodygroom Pro and would definitely recommend it to all guys out there, especially those with sensitive skin.

Price: $69.99

The National Heirloom Exposition in Santa Rosa, CA :: September 11-13, 2012

The 2nd Annual National Heirloom Exposition in Santa Rosa, California is HERE!! I had the pleasure of attending today (9/12), and will be returning tomorrow too for the last day of the event (9/13). This extremely successful and HUGE event is all about the pure food movement, heirloom vegetables, and anti-GMO activism. Count me in!!

Knowing that my mom lived just 15 minutes away from the event I knew I had to check it out! What a great excuse to make a trip to Grandma's house! :) This event features over 15,000 gardeners, chefs, farmers, businesses and speakers AND the world's largest produce exhibit!! Tons of my favorite businesses were there including Amy's Kitchen, Clover Stornetta, Whole Foods Market, Bulk Herb Store and so many more! Today was also School Groups Educational & Fun Day so it was the perfect day to take Buddy since there were tons of activities that were pretty kid-friendly. We missed the California State Fair this year and I was so bummed. But being the semi-crunchy mama that I am, this event is WAY more up my alley and it's all the parts I love about the State Fair and much more! Here are just a few photos I'd like to share with you. I hope some of you are able to make it tomorrow!

Hazelaid.com :: Baltic Amber Necklace {Review & Discount}

Hazelaid is an online retailer of natural healing remedies including Hazelwood, Baltic Amber, Magnetic, Ointment, and Soap Nut products. Established in 2008, they are well-known in the holistic, natural-preferring communities I'm part of. I've been intrigued with Baltic Amber for a couple years now and immediately thought of contacting Hazelaid. Baltic Amber's positive benefits for teething babies really resonates with my personal natural mantra, but Buddy is way past teething so this review was for me! I was thrilled to get a great response and have the opportunity to review one of their Baltic Amber necklaces for myself.

For those of your unfamiliar with Baltic Amber, basically it works by releasing succinic acid into the body when warmed by your skin. Succinic acid is naturally found in the body, and is a natural anti-inflammatory and analgesic. By adding more to your body from Baltic Amber, you can potentially see an improvement in chronic pain, inflammation, and other ailments. I have a few patches of eczema, Calcific Tendonitis in my shoulders (causing pain and horrible range of motion), and also evidence of some general inflammation that is possibly related to my infertility issues. I know that Hazelwood would be better suited for my eczema (I'll be reviewing one in the future), but mine is very inflammed to begin with and I figured the Baltic Amber's anti-inflammatory properties might have a positive effect on it.

In light of my recent efforts to improve my health as much as possible, I went with the lightest color available, the semi-polished Super Butter! Baltic Amber Necklace. The lighter, least polished Baltic Amber releases the most succinic acid. They do come in a variety of shades and even multi-color shades. I chose the 16" since I'm not a big fan of long necklaces, and you really want to keep the necklace on your skin to be most effective anyway. I love the rich, buttery yellow of this necklace!

Call me crazy, but I've had some pretty awesome results from wearing my Baltic Amber necklace almost 24/7 for about 6 weeks now. Although going gluten-free has improved my eczema slightly, I still had a bit of inflammation left that made it always look raised and puffy on the back of my neck. Since Baltic Amber works best when worn closest to the ailment, I knew I had a good shot at helping my eczema with this Baltic Amber necklace. Within one day, ONE DAY, it improved and was no longer as inflamed as usual. I've never seem it look this good!! I still have my eczema, but it's not as "angry" looking as it used to be. Also, my shoulders? I can actually raise my arms all the way up without any pain at all. I have not been able to do that in a few years since I first started having issues with my shoulders! So, the inflammation is mostly gone in my shoulders, and I only feel the calcified part rubbing if I over-extend past normal range which is, well, normal! I can finally reach up into my kitchen cupboards without pain and risking injury!

So, yes. I'm totally in love with my Baltic Amber necklace from Hazelaid. I'm thrilled. No, I'm not just making this up! This is really my honest opinion and experience. Based on my results, I absolutely believe that Baltic Amber would be beneficial for teething babies too, and I now see why it has been a trusted remedy for thousands of years around the world and seems to be gaining popularity at the moment among natural-preferring mamas. And, caring for your Baltic Amber properly can mean that it will last a lifetime so you can use it for years or among several children. Because there are knots between each bead, an unfortunate break doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to fix it, and you won't risk loosing a bunch of beads either!

Some people (and even a popular baby website recently) have spoken against Baltic Amber. It makes me so angry when people bash natural healing remedies, saying it's all a hoax and such. Those are usually the same people who don't believe eating a real food diet can improve your health either. And the same people who are paid millions in advertising by baby formula companies and other groups who are nowhere near natural (it's about money!). Just like with conventional drugs and treatments, not all will work on every person. However, odds are pretty great that you will notice a difference in your inflammatory ailments by wearing Baltic Amber from Hazelaid. I believe Baltic Amber is the real deal. It's not some "hocus-pocus", rock-worshiping type of thing. It's simply a natural remedy with healing properties that really works for a lot of people.

*Obviously I've had some pretty amazing results. This DOES NOT mean you will experience the same, if at all. As with anything, each person's body will react differently. Please do not take my experience as a way of diagnosing or treating your own ailments. Always seek the advice of a medical professional.*

Adorable Infant Clothing from Little Me :: Review, Discount & $50 Gift Card Giveaway! {Ends 9/21}

Baby clothes don't fit too long and if yours are anything like Buddy, the first few sizes don't fit for too long. I had a chunker too so we went through sizes even quicker and he was in size 12 months by about 6 months old! Thankfully I went with inexpensive brands like Little Me. That doesn't mean I sacrificed on quality though. Little Me is one of the few inexpensive baby clothing brands that I love! They offer adorably cute, soft, cozy and comfortable baby clothes that are also age appropriate and stylish. I received two darling outfits and a bear plush from Little Me to review.
The first one is the Monkey Footie for baby boys. This one piece features 100% cotton, snaps down the front and one leg, cute monkey appliques and adorable monkey toes!The tan and white stripes add extra detail, as well as the dark brown trim from the neck to the armpits, and dark brown stitching at the wrists.

The Cabbage Rose Footie for baby girls is also a 100% cotton one piece. This one makes me want to have a girl SO BAD! It's just precious!! It features a floral print with an old-world charm, an asymmetrical closure, pretty ruffles down the front, neck and sleeves, and pink bows for an extra touch of girly. It comes with a matching hat!

Aren't these both just so darling? I wish you could feel them through your screen. Really, they are so beautifully soft and the perfect thickness. They're so high quality and yet so inexpensive! An outfit for just $16? You've got to be kidding me! AND, since they're footed one pieces you don't have to worry about shoes and socks (and let's face it, those things never stay on when they're little anyway!). I have a little nephew and also a new niece due to arrive soon that will be the lucky recipients of these!

One piece footies were my staple when Buddy was a baby. They are just so easy and convenient! Maybe it's just me but I also worried I was squishy his little tummy when I put him in pants and a tee. I bought a few pieces from Little Me when he was little and I remember them well. I never had an issue with fit (ie short legs, baggy arms, huge neck hole), and they held up well in the wash. In fact, they still looked brand new after multiple washes. And, since they're made from 100% cotton, you can rest assured knowing your baby isn't going to overheat too easily and yet they'll be warm and cozy. Not to mention stylish! I have no doubt that these two footies will be the same awesome quality I remember. I will definitely be buying pieces from Little Me with our next one!

Need something extra to finish off your baby shower gift? The Little Me 7" Plush Bear is the perfect addition to any outfit ensemble for a new mom-to-be. Cute, cuddly, and super soft. You can't go wrong with Little Me! Affordable, comfortable fashion for your little ones.
