5 Ways to Save Money in the Home This Summer

Disclosure: This is a guest post.

As the months begin to get warmer, it's time to start preparing the home for the changes in temperature. By getting things taken care of now, you can reduce the money you spend during these months in utilities and other costs. Much like battening down the hatches during the winter, it's time to start preparing the house for the summer.

Time Water Fun with Lawn Care

Some areas may be faced with drought conditions. If you're location schedules certain days of the week you can water the lawn, time the outdoor water sports of the home to coincide. You and the children can enjoy home-based water slides while you water the lawn. You can still enjoy the outdoor water play while keeping the grass from dying out or facing fines from the city.

Regular Filter Cleaning

Make it a habit to clean all filters in the home from air conditioning units to the vacuum. When filters get clogged, the machines they are attached do have to work harder in order to move a specific amount of air. This will reduce efficiency and use up more energy. If you keep vacuums clean, then there are less particulates in the air affecting AC units and other large appliances to get clogged.

Plan More Outdoor Activities

Not only is getting outdoors helping you get active and healthy, but it's less electricity you will use since no one is glued to game consoles and television. Playing in the park, going on a nature walk on a nearby trail or a simple picnic can be beneficial for everyone.

Automatic Power Switches

Some have found electric timers to be effective when connected to various devices. By limiting when an appliance or electronic device can be used throughout the day, you can ensure that it won't be used constantly. This can be greatly beneficial if you don't want the children playing games all day long.

Bike Rides

Instead of piling the family in a car or driving to the corner store, use bicycles. A family ride can be enjoyable while saving a great deal of money on gasoline. You'll spend time with the family while promoting a healthier way to travel.

By doing what you can to reduce your spending, you keep more money in your pocket. This can help you enjoy the entertainment and other fun things during the summer whether you're by yourself or living with children. Companies such as Columbia utilities often give tips of how you can save energy costs. Why not allow your cash to go further by reviewing more of these tips and suggestions?

Here is another great way to save money, and have fun with the kiddos at the same time! If you have never seen a Cirque du Soleil show, now is a great time to check it out with new discounted children’s tickets.

You can see this all-new arena show live at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento from April 9-12 and at the Stockton Arena from April 15-19. There are new $25 ($37.35 with service fees) tickets for children, valid on Category 1, 2 & 3 tickets. Go here for tickets before they sell out www.cirquedusoleil.com/varekai.

Deep within a forest, at the summit of a volcano, exists an extraordinary world - a world where something else is possible. A world called Varekai. From the sky falls a solitary young man, and the story of Varekai begins. Parachuted into the shadows of a magical forest, a kaleidoscopic world populated by fantastical creatures, this young man sets off on an adventure both absurd and extraordinary.
The word Varekai means "wherever" in the Romany language of the gypsies the universal wanderers.

Share this info with your friends and enjoy!! Your whole family will love it.

We are a group of moms (www.milesofmarketing.com) passing along great information like this to other moms!!!

These are great tips! We have a family membership to the YMCA, and this is a great way for us to save money, because the kids love spending time at the pool, and I love the two hours of free childcare so that I can work out and de-stress.

What wonderful tips! We like to ride bikes, especially while we are on vacation at the beach! It's how we go shopping and to the stores!
