About the Designer...

Hello!  I am Michele Zook and was born and raised in beautiful Amish country, Pennsylvania. I am married to my junior high crush, and we have been blessed with two beautiful, healthy kids.  In the summer of 2010, we opened Zookies featuring handcrafted goodies.  Our focus is waterproof cloth diaper covers, but we also make other items including 100% cotton bibs and reusable snack bags.  I was an elementary school teacher before having kids.   Being at home with my kids is where I love to be!  No two days are the same, and we have so much fun.  However, they will soon be starting school, so I was trying to find something that I could do from home, since my husband works long, and sometimes, strange hours.  And quite honestly, the thought of working while in my pj's with a cup of hot coffee is enticing!  I cloth diapered, so the thought was developed to open our own store from home handcrafting our own diaper covers.  Inspiration for me comes from walking around one of my favorite local fabric shops carrying over 8,000 bolts of fabric.  May sound strange, but it is located about a grocery store.  The fabric store is in a loft - like area, and one can look down on the grocery store below.  I enjoy just browsing through to see if something "grabs me."  I happily work on custom orders.  In the past, I have had people send me material that they wanted made into covers.  And I have also had someone who wanted white covers, so I headed to the fabric shop for some (not that I minded being sent to the fabric shop)!!  As a company, we strive for product satisfaction.  Additionally, I want to give you the best customer service that I can.  Each order; each person is an individual and it is my goal to treat each one as such.

Review...

Cloth diaper prints get me every time. I don't care if you cover them with pants, solid colors just aren't the same! For adorable designer prints and great baby gifts, Zookies is the place to go!

I received 2 covers to review. The first is the Playday Diaper Cover in a size large. Zookies diaper covers are 2 layers. The insides are PUL and the outside is a cotton fabric. The elephants are so stinkin' cute! This diaper has a snap closure, although you can request hook & loop (velcro) as well. The outer white trim is soft fold over elastic that allows for some "give" in the fit of the legs and waist. It also helps keep any contents inside the cover! For the least expensive way to cloth diaper your baby, one size diaper covers and prefolds/fitteds are probably the best way to go. If the cover isn't soiled, you can reuse it throughout the day.

Overall, I really like this cover. The double row of snaps help avoid the dreadful wingdroop. I also like the elastic trim and how soft it is. Red marks were no where to be seen with both covers! The legs fit snugly on both diapers. The material above the snap rows did flare out just a tad bit. It doesn't effect the performance of the cover though.

Buddy also has lots of room to grow. With just a prefold in it, it seems to sag a little because there is so much room in the back. As an overnight or nap time cover though, it's nice to have such a generous amount of space to stuff for more absorbency.

I also received the Animals Magic One Size Diaper Cover. This cover will work from 8-35 pounds. Buddy is 33 and I think he could easily go up to 40 pounds in this one. Look at how small it will go too! I think a little chicken-legged newborn would fit great in this cover without it looking humongous. The details of the diaper are the same as the sized cover, except for the extra 3 vertical rows of snaps to easily adjust the sizing.

While each cover did fit great, I actually like the One Size better. I thought I would get a better fit with the large cover that is more geared towards his size, but I was totally wrong! As you can see in the photo above, the fit of the one-size is really nice and snug around the tummy. The material above the snaps didn't flare out at the top like the sized cover. It just seemed to lay flat against his body a lot better in general. I also got a more snug fit on the backside and I didn't have any extra material that caused a little sagging with the large cover. I was so surprised!

You'll find a lot of the same beautifully bright and fun designer prints with all her products. LOVE the prints. Did I say that already? :)
