{Sponsor Spotlight & Review} Nellie's All-Natural Laundry Soda

Nellie's All-Natural is a line of laundry and kitchen products for your home made in Canada. But it doesn't stop there. Nellie's products are non-toxic, hypoallergenic, environmentally friendly and contain no fillers so you only use what is needed. Nellie's also does not test on animals.

I received a 50-load bag of Nellie's All-Natural Laundry Soda to try out. The ingredients include Sodium Silicate and Coconut Oil based surfactants, and that's it! No fillers, it's biodegradable, non-toxic, hypoallergenic, and a safe choice for newborn babes and adults alike. It's also cloth diaper safe! Nellie's laundry soda is unscented, completely rinses from your clothes, leaving no residue that conventional brands will leave which can cause your clothes to wear faster and is bad for your skin anyway. This makes Nellie's a great choice for those with allergies or sensitive skin too. Inside the bag is a small scoop, so you don't have to supply your own and you'll also know you are using the right amount of laundry soda per load. Only one scoop (one tablespoon) is required regardless of load size since it's very concentrated and highly effective.

I'm surprised by how bubbly just the water and laundry soda gets with so few ingredients! So much so, that I just had to show you. I actually like seeing all those bubbles in there. It's reassurance that it's actually going to get my clothes clean in just a minute!

I've tried many laundry detergents, some natural and others not-so-much. Some I have liked, but most I have not (especially the chemical-filled ones). Many of the samples I've tried from other natural brands wouldn't dissolve in cold water, and sometimes even required an extra rinse. So far my experience with Nellie's has been perfect. As I mentioned it suds up nicely, dissolves quickly even in cold water, and my laundry comes out clean. It doesn't leave my clothes any smell, which means my laundry is clean and the laundry soda is washing away in the rinse cycle. My clothes come out soft, just the way they should and there isn't anything to suggest that Nellie's does anything other than a great job at cleaning my clothes! Nellie's is definitely a safer alternative to conventional detergents out there and I'd definitely recommend checking them out!

  2. This is great! And I love the price too. I love when the price is reasonable on natural products. So often it is hiked up so high, no one can afford it!

  3. Do you know if it works well in hard water? We have hard water here which has effected using natural detergents with cloth diapers.

  4. We started using Nellie's when we started having issues with our regular detergent and our cloth diapers, even though I wasn't using even half of what the detergent recommended. Nellie's was on a list I trusted of cloth diaper-safe detergents, and I found that I could get a giant (1100-load) container of it from Costco.ca. I've been so delighted with it, I give away samples. Took us a year to go through one pail, even almost daily with cloth diaper laundry and freely offering samples to friends.

Erm, but I wanted to address your comment about the suds. I'm pretty sure sudsiness has nothing to do with how well a cleaning product like this works. An experiment we did in 8th grade science class (I can't believe I actually learned something in that class) with shampoo showed us suds were all for show, and in fact, the less sudsy products did a better job at clearing away dirt and oils. Fairly certain that carries over to all traditionally sudsy cleaning products. (Knowing this does not stop me from being disappointed in a shampoo that doesn't give me a nice lather, however.)

  5. Gwendolyn, I'm sure how well it works for hard water, since mine is pretty much in the middle. It's cheap enough to give it a try though!

Jena, glad to hear from a long-time user of Nellie's! Yes, I know suds really has nothing to do with cleaning effectiveness. I was merely poking fun at myself since seeing those bubbles makes me feel better! lol I'm so used to super natural products not offering any suds that this was just surprising. And being that it suds this much and you have had so much success with it, well, maybe the suds/effectiveness correlation isn't always true!?! Thanks for your comment!

  9. I like that it dissolved and got your clothes clean. I use liquids, but I recently tried a powder and it took several cycles before it all dissolved. It did get the clothes clean, but I think Nellies sounds good. I would also like to try the bamboo wash cloths in vanilla.
