(Closed) itti bitti Cloth Diapers Review and Giveaway Ends 5/5

An Australian cloth diaper company called itti bitti just launched in the US in March. Since it's inception in 2005, they have experienced tremendous growth and their diapers are now sold in 25 countries! WOW! With a rainbow of colors, beautiful fabrics, and their signature ultra trim fit, itti bitti aims to change the way you think about cloth diapers!

Itti bitti was so generous in sending me 2 of their diapers to review! When I first received the diapers, I understood what all the buzz is about this amazing brand. I just had to FEEL them! They are hands down, the softest diapers I've EVER felt. The minkee outer material is just scrumptious! I received a one size diaper, and also a sized snap-in-one diaper!

 

The bitti tutto is a one size, birth to potty training diaper. It's specifically supposed to fit from 8 to 44 pounds! It features a waterproof minkee outer shell, a soft polyester suede cloth inner, a patent-pending "Poo fence" (gussets!), and 3 bamboo/cotton inserts for customized absorption.

The inserts looks intimidating, but they are color coded by the snaps so it's a little easier than you think.

 

If you are going to use all 3 inserts together, here's how I put them in. First, grab the really long insert and snap it at the top with the yellow snaps. Tuck it in underneath the poo fence (gussets).  Then I flipped it up and out of the way for a second. Next, find the mini booster insert with the red snaps, and snap it to the medium insert with the purple snaps. 

 Then, take that medium insert and with the purple snaps and snap it into the corresponding purple snaps on the inside front of the diaper. Lay the medium insert flat into the diaper. Take the long insert and snap the blue snaps underneath together, according to what rise setting the diaper is on.

Lay the long, folded insert over the medium insert, and check out all those layers!! You can choose to use just the medium, or just the long insert if you want. Or choose one of them and add the tiny insert with red snaps. It can attach to either of the larger inserts.

I love the concept of the hip snaps. One thing that annoys me about some cloth diapers is that on the largest waist setting, a snap or two ends up digging into my son's skin!! The bitti tutto solves this issue by having hip snap covers. It's just a small tab of material with a snap attached to match the snap furthest towards the inside of the diaper. Simply cover the snap when not in use, or leave in uncovered for smaller waist settings and just tuck in into the little pocket!

Check out that Poo Fence! Runny breastfed poo is not getting past that!

And here it is on Buddy! You do get a pretty trim fit with this diaper and the rise is a bit low. He is on the largest setting though at 33 pounds, and this was stuffed with all 3 inserts. I'm having a hard time thinking this diaper will work up to 44 pounds (although Buddy should be potty trained by then!) since we're pretty far out on the waist snaps, and the rise is already pretty low. Also, the rise will just get shorter the larger the child, which isn't always a desirable feature for some moms. Otherwise, it's a well-functioning, high quality diaper.

The second diaper I received is the bitti d'lish Snap In One in a size Large (23-37 pounds). It also features a waterproof minkee outer shell, a soft polyester suede cloth inner, and 2 inserts. 

This is a sized diaper, so the details are more tailored to a certain size range. Notice there is no poo fence inside. There are 2 inserts that fit specifically for this diaper.

The yellow snapped insert snaps in at the top, and the purple snapped, tri-folded insert snaps in at the front inside of the diaper.

Here the tri-folded purple snapped insert is tucked in (pretty snug fit!), and the yellow snapped insert can lay right on top for the most comfortable surface for baby. Notice that the red snaps? You can use the mini booster insert from the bitti tutto and snap it under this insert for added absorbency! Now, just put it on your baby!

The bitti d'lish is designed with a low rise to go along with the ultra trim fit, but I almost felt like it was going to fall off him at first (hard to tell from the photo above where he is sitting). The rise was very similar to the bitti tutto. It worked out fine though and I decided the bitti d'lish fit better on Buddy. I did noticed a bit a red marking from the back waist elastic, but the diaper was already a little loose in the front with all the inserts though. They don't offer an extra large in the bitti d'lish (which would be equivlant to the sizing he was on for the bitti tutto), but if they did, I'd prefer it so I can get a little bit of higher rise.

With the bitti d'lish, I was able to leave Buddy in it for about 3 hours with NO leaks! Yay! That's a lot for him in any cloth diaper that isn't stuffed to the max (and very "fluffy" and uncomfortable for normal play!). This diaper seemed a little more comfortable than the bitti tutto so that's why I decided to only test this one's absorption abilities. I'm sure the bitti tutto can also handle a heavy wetter like Buddy since it has about the same amount of bamboo layers/material. I (usually) like sized diapers more than one size because the rise snaps tend to rub the inner legs and they can be quite uncomfortable, although I didn't have this problem at all with the one size bitti tutto! :)

A few more thoughts on both diapers...

A great feature of these diapers is that I can play around with the inserts and fit them in either diaper. They fit just fine! The downside is that I'm still a bit overwhelmed with all the inserts and choices I have. I've figured out how they work and all, it just seems a bit unnecessary and I'd prefer a simpler version with just one insert. I'm glad they are clearly labeled though and it does cut down on drying time.

Both diapers operate like a cover, and can be used again with new inserts if the cover isn't soiled. While I do like this money-saving feature, what I don't like is that if I place all the inserts inside, I get less of a "scoop" or "U" shape when looking at the front of the diaper between the legs. It's almost straight across, and the inserts are trying to bust out of the side of the legs. Basically, the suede material on the diaper isn't wide enough between the legs to accommodate all the inserts. I think this is why I prefer pockets. Pocket diapers already have the designated amount of material that will be next to baby's skin, and between the legs, and you can stuff to your hearts content underneath. Just my opinion and more of a personal preference than anything. They are still great diapers with lots of great features.

The Verdict: LOVE the minkee material. It's yummy! I'm not a big fan of having so many inserts, but they do hold a lot of fluid, and dry very fast after washing. The impeccable high quality materials are fantastic, and ultra trim fit make this a diaper that every mom should try. The super soft minky bottom is just adorable!
